JOB SUMMARY

Performs carpentry work at the journeyman level by applying trade skills to construct, erect, install, fabricate, dismantle, and repair structures, formwork, framing of wood, metal, and other related building materials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Four (4) years’ experience in at least one of the areas described in the essential functions.

A valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Utah shall be required at the time of hire.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.

Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Roofer

installs, maintains and repairs roofs of all types.

Performs routine roof inspections and preventive maintenance, adhere to manufacture warranties, assist and advise Project Managers on roofing projects, provide roofing reports.

Performs wide range of metal repairs; flashings, wall panels, fascia, soffit and gutters

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Will perform one or more of the following essential functions based on previous experience and expertise:
• Framing: Construct walls and other structures. Construct window and door frames as well as staircases and flooring and installing temporary supports for structures as required. Accurately measure, cut, and shape lumber, wood, steel, and other building materials. Attach building materials using screws, nuts, and bolts. Erect temporary structures such as scaffolds and hoists. Perform repairs on existing framework structures that are damaged or needing remodel.
• Finish Carpentry: Accomplishes a variety of finishing work by trimming, fitting, and installing windows, doors, moldings, baseboards, paneling, etc. Assembly and installation of custom boxes, cabinetry, and countertops. Hanging doors and prepping for installation. Carpet and ceiling grid systems installation and repair.
• Concrete: Knowledge of concrete layout, and lays and ties rebar. Constructs forms for concrete structures. Smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures, using hand tools or power tools, including floats, trowels, and screeds.
• Roofing: evaluating roofing system needs and requirements; ordering and gathering repair supplies; completing installation. Remove old roofing materials, install new roofing, inspect, and repair any damages, install insulation and membrane. Knowledge of Bitumen, TPO, EPDM, PVC, Metal, Asphalt, Single ply and /or EPDM roofing.
• Drywall: experience in hanging, installing, patching, repairing, and finishing drywall including texture matching.
• Painting: Commercial type painting, Brush, Spray, Roll. Painting new construction, remodels, and existing surfaces. Performs parking lot striping and curb painting. Experience with epoxies and floor coverings, and masking, caulking, cleaning, painting etc.
• Transports and operates light, medium, and/or heavy-duty
• Read blueprints, schematics, hazard warnings, and safety instructions. May lay out jobs, makes rough sketches showing materials and dimensions, estimates labor, determines methods, material, and time requirements, and ensures that code requirements and safety regulations and safe work practices are followed.
• Prepares a variety of routine records and reports, maintains records of work requests and routine equipment maintenance and safety
• May assist with loading and unloading dock deliveries and
• Keeps alert for facility problems that could be safety or security
• May order and maintain materials and supplies.
• Assembles/disassembles, designs, relocates, and repairs modular furniture systems such as partitions, workstations, shelving, and other office
• Maintains facility grounds which may include cutting grass, weeding, watering, aerating, fertilizing, seeding turf, trimming shrubbery, and snow
• Performs other general functions as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Methods, materials, tools, and equipment necessary to perform facilities and grounds construction, maintenance, and repair
• Grounds maintenance and gardening (care of flowers, shrubs, trees, fertilizing)
• Preventative maintenance techniques
• Standard Safety Practices and procedures common to facilities and grounds construction and maintenance and working around the public.
• General knowledge of contracting methods, such as building and framing walls, plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry.
• Proper hand and power tools needed for assigned tasks, their usage, and maintenance.
• Cleaning methods and techniques, sanitation principles, fire codes, and proper use of cleaning chemicals and supplies
