The Junior Software Engineer must be able to meet the key criteria below:

Location: Candidate should be able to be onsite in Suitland, MD as needed. Current work is performed remotely however there may be a requirement for in-office days in Suitland, MD in 2024.

Years’ Experience: 2+ years software development experience

Education: Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or IT related field

Security Clearance: IBR is a federal contractor. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.

NOTE: United States Citizenship is required as part of the eligibility criteria to be able to obtain this type of security clearance.

Key Skills:

  • Software development experience using Angular and Python within a LAMP architecture
  • Object-Oriented programming experience such as Java and JavaScript
  • Experience with other software technologies such as Web Services (SOAP/REST), JSON, XML, AJAX
  • GIS development experience is desirable with Open Layers is a plus
  • Postgres SQL database experience with GEO Postgres is a plus.

Position Overview

As a Software Engineer at IBR, you will specialize in Open-Source Solution Customization and will work on an Agile Scrum team using Python and Angular custom modules. The Software Engineer will assist with designing and developing new and innovative features and solutions for our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Software development with Angular, Python, Java, JavaScript, and other various scripting languages
  • Design data models and web APIs and creation of software tasks from system requirements
  • Perform requirements analysis, design, development, unit, and integration testing of software, troubleshooting and debugging of the system
  • Immediate responsibilities will include enhancing and maintaining the existing system as well as design, development, and documentation of new features
  • Usage of tracking tools (i.e., JIRA, Gitlab) to document day-to-day tasks within the Scrum process
  • Implement web services, data persistence access features, and external interfaces
  • Ability to develop in a full stack development environment
  • Follow Agile software development methodology and team architecture standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in IT related field required
  • 2+ years development experience within an Agile Scrum Team environment
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance
  • Must have development experience with Angular, TypeScript/JavaScript, and Python
  • Experience with PostgreSQL database environments is preferred with PostGIS as an extra bonus
  • Desired technology experience includes Java, Spring, JSON, XML, AJAX and/or Apache Tomcat
  • Experience with developing user interfaces using CSS, HTML, JavaScript (jQuery, React)
  • Experience with Web Services (SOAP/REST)
  • Experience in CI/CD environment (i.e., Docker, Jenkins, Ansible, Kubernetes) and scripting languages (Bash, Powershell, Perl) a bonus but not required
  • Experience with GIS environments (i.e., QGIS, Open Layers, ArcGIS, ESRI) is a bonus but not required
  • Experience with design, development, enhancement, troubleshooting and debugging of web applications
  • Experience developing and integrating complex software systems through the full SDLC

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While this position primarily involves sedentary work in an office environment and/or home-office environment, there are some physical demands associated with the role, including:

  • Extended periods of sitting and working at a computer workstation.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of equipment or materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional travel to client sites or meetings may be required.
  • Work may need to be performed in a fast-paced environment requiring quick thinking and rapid judgements.
  • Additionally, flexible work arrangements may be available based on business needs.
  • Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of clients in differing functions, personalities, and abilities.
