Job Description

**Overview**

We have an exciting opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join the Ecco team! The Editorial Assistant will provide administrative and editorial support to two Senior Editors specializing in literary fiction, literature in translation, poetry, cookbooks, and non-fiction across a wide range of genres including cultural criticism, journalism, history, narrative history, memoir, and food writing.

This role is based in New York City and will require someone in commutable distance to come into the office on a hybrid basis.

**Responsibilities**

+ Works with supervisors on the progress of book projects from acquisition to publication and beyond by managing schedules, maintaining records, and acting as the in-house liaison between Editorial and other departments, as well as conducting external communications with agents and authors.

+ Prepares publication materials, including contract requests and amendments, title information sheets, jacket and retailer copy, and manuscript transmittals.

+ Keeps data per book title up-to-date in the company’s internal systems, including new blurbs, review quotes, and awards information.

+ Traffics manuscripts through production, liaising with authors to meet publishing deadlines and keeping supervisors apprised of the status of projects and upcoming deadlines.

+ Assists supervisors in the acquisitions process by reading and evaluating manuscripts and proposals, keeping track of submissions, writing rejection letters, evaluating market competition and trends, and researching and developing ideas.

+ Provides administrative support by scheduling, requesting ISBNs, managing mailings, alerting authors of price promotions, and helping with projects to maintain the imprint’s backlist.

+ Works with supervisors to apply to translation grants and manages application deadlines.

+ Provides occasional departmental support, including scheduling departmental meetings, taking minutes, and assisting with literary prize submissions.

**Qualifications**

+ College degree or 1+ year of relevant work experience

+ Genuine interest in literary fiction, literature in translation, poetry, non-fiction, and cookbooks

+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and social media platforms

+ Proficiency in a foreign language is a plus

The salary for this position is $48,500. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.
