Job Description

Job Title: Area Sales Manager

Location: Western New York (Buffalo/Rochester)

Classification: Exempt

Travel: 80% or more

Salary Range: $85,000–$120,000 (base salary plus commission)

Position Overview:

The Area Sales Manager (ASM) is responsible for driving sales of advanced machine tools, providing innovative solutions to meet customers' work requirements. This role focuses on building strong customer relationships, managing accounts, and identifying growth opportunities in the assigned territory. The ASM will report directly to the Regional Sales Director.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers to promote product sales.
  • Provide technical sales support and collaborate with Applications Engineers to determine customer equipment needs.
  • Develop and present tailored proposals for customer requirements.
  • Recommend enhanced materials or machinery solutions based on customer needs.
  • Conduct regular site visits to customer facilities to review engineering or service-related concerns and identify sales opportunities (minimum of 25 visits per week).
  • Address complex engineering issues at customer locations.
  • Prepare and submit weekly Territory Planning and MIS reports, along with timely expense reports as required.
  • Participate in semiannual visits to international manufacturing facilities in Japan, Germany, Italy, and China.
  • Develop strategic and tactical plans to achieve annual sales targets.
  • Partner with engineering teams for product demonstrations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
    • OR Associate’s Degree with 5+ years of relevant B2B sales experience.
  • Experience:

    • 2–5 years of B2B sales or business development experience.
    • Recent experience in machine tool sales or related environments preferred.
